Hayley Kiyoko at the Hammerstein Ballroom

As though she were a spark of energy, Hayley Kiyoko pumped life into the overheated and tired audience through her performance. As though the fans were asleep by the stage, Kiyoko woke them up. As though her music was a vibration of caffeine, her lyrics were a shot of energy, and her dance moves were contagious, the audience that began the show was not the same as the fans singing Whitney Houston on the way out. Kiyoko had changed them.

However, Kiyoko has been changing fans since her debut in the early 2000s. From shows such as Scooby-Doo! and Lemonade Mouth, as a founding member of the Stunners, and as the face behind various brands and campaigns like KnowledgeWare, Kiyoko has orbited the limelight for most of her life. If none of the aforementioned was familiar, perhaps you know Kiyoko’s debut album, Expectations or one of her most popular songs, “Girls Like Girls.”

With all that being said, if you still can’t place Kiyoko in one’s mind’s eye, then you’ll never forget her after her performance. It was like watching a flame within a fireplace. The way it moves, the energy it gives off, you can’t help but be enchanted by the curve of the hot tide. Between her dance moves, powerful and fun lyrics, and engagement with the audience, Kiyoko is undoubtedly a gifted performer. As well as, a talented singer, a dancer, a lyricist, a musician, and a hype-man for whatever day her audience may be having.

Kiyoko will be continuing on with Lauv for the rest of his tour. You can catch her at one of the many stops between North Carolina and Washington State. However, if you are unable to make one of those performances, here’s to hoping Kiyoko announces her own headlining tour soon. Until then, one will have to make due with the numerous songs streamable across platforms.
