Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Book Lovers does exactly what Emily Henry fans want it to do. And, if I’m being honest, I’m still not sure what to say about a book that perfectly meets expectations. It’s an unusual situation Henry has found herself in. By building a loyal following and a literary brand that is so specific, I can only think to equate Henry’s literary prowess to influencers. People read Henry because of her meta-literary stories so Henry writes meta-literary stories.

The pinnacle of which being Henry’s latest release, Book Lovers. Published in early May, fans are already hailing the story for burrowing deep within the Henry brand. It’s not just that Henry has created a new space for herself within bookstores, she has created characters that would not only read her books, but be friends with her audience. They are realistic oddballs, they are more than readers, they are accurate representations of people, personalities, and interactions. Henry captures the mind and dialogue of younger generations so perfectly. I believe that representation, along with every other marketing technique and branding of Emily Henry, is what makes her such a beloved author. Readers get to read about characters that are just like themselves. Furthermore, readers get to read about readers that are just like themselves.
